The initial assessment involves taking some personal details including that of any medical complaints and taking a history of your injury e.g. when and how it happened, pain levels, aggravating and easing factors. All these details are confidential and stored in a locked cabinet.
A thorough physical assessment will then take place in which you may be asked to remove your shirt or put some shorts on-all (depending on the area of injury) treatment is carried out in a private room, where your privacy and modesty is upheld at all times. The physical assessment will include observation, palpation, range of movement, strength tests, neurological testing, special tests-for ligaments, cartilage etc and functional tests.
Once a thorough assessment has occurred a plan will be complied in discussion with you including what you have injured, what you should and shouldn't do, how long (approx.) it will continue to give you pain and whether further advice is required e.g MRI referral. It is difficult to advise people how many treatments they will require as everyone responds differently and every injury is individual which is why I simply advise an initial treatment and if it helps come back and we'll continue to treat all the while an improvement is being seen. In my experience a marked improvement is (usually) experienced after 3 sessions.
Returning people to sport usually requires some gym based rehabilitation which is available to us on site.
My approach is very much 'hands on' in the initial stages then moving onto a rehabilitation program of exercise the patient can carry out in their home.
